Greetings Billy, This looks more like a castle on the horizon. Are they going to renovate and get a second life from the old place or just let it go?

Cheers,

Rich

Over the last year they have built luxury flats on the grounds of the old hospital with the towers providing a nice background. I don’t know if they have any plans for the hospital building.

A few years ago I jogged through the hospital grounds on my Sunday morning run. All the lower windows were boarded up but the upper windows still had glass & I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being watched as I ran by! I don’t mind telling you Rich that I picked up my pace!

Hallo Billy! I took a view of this one in original size, and it looked kind of mysterious to me. Abandoned buildings have a creepy touch somehow. Anyway, it's a great shot! Cheers, Anne

Seems like a setting for a James Herbert novel!!! Creeping and full of sad histories. I hope they do do something to bring the place back to life. There's nothing sadder than something so beautiful just left to rot. But having said that...... Europe would be a sadder place without all it's castle ruins. (Question- why do ruins never fall down???)

Hi Anne & Palmina. The fact that it was once an asylum does make this building seem more mysterious & I’m sure there are lots of sad stories that could be told. I’m almost sure it’s a ‘listed’ building so it can’t be demolished. As to your question Pali, doesn’t a building have to fall down a little to become a ruin!! ;)

Palmina Moore, on November 28, 2007, said:

Hi Billy sorry..... I meant to say, that once the building starts to fall down and becomes a ruin, it never seems to progress beyond that point and stays the same for years and years.

My ? is what is that blue thing that's just in front of the closest bushes? It almost looks like a creature from the time of the dinosaurs. I'm thinking you have other things to worry about than the ghosts of the previous residents Billy.

Pam I think it's a horse in it's winter rug.....at least I hope it is or I need new glasses!!!!

The animals in Scotland aren't as hardy as your poor cattle over there.

I know exactly what you meant about ruins Palmina. It was a clever & humorous question. I was just being mischievous but only for a bit of fun. Sorry! Forgive me?

There were horses & cows in these fields Pam but I’m sure Palmina is right about it being a horse. There is a riding school nearby so they probably pamper their horses.

It probably is but it sure looks like the triangular plates of a stegosaurus coming out of that blanket.

Looks a bit like a unicorn to me.

LOLOL ;) please crop the picture so we can see that object close up Billy. :)

Billy B@rk, on November 29, 2007, said:

I could crop it Pam but it wouldn't be any bigger or better than looking at it in original size. But I’ll do it anyway just for you & delete it after you’ve had a look.

Lilypon, on November 29, 2007, said:

OK :) BTW my husband took a look and his first impression was a blanketed horse too but then I pointed out what appears to be triangular plates and he said he could see them too. :S

Billy B@rk, on November 29, 2007, said:

I think there might be a few old fence posts behind the horse Pam. I've cropped it & I can see what you mean. I'll upload it now & let you see.

I’ll have another look at this area over the weekend & maybe take a few closer shots of the towers.

That would be very nice to see! :D It's a beautiful building Billy. :D

I live fairly nearby and this reminds me of 2 big bear claws poking out the ground!

Apparently they are going to redevelop it into flats. I saw the artist impression photos of the interiors of the new flats and they looked really clinical, probably in keeping with the way it used to be. Don't fancy living there, or the mortgage on even a small flat ;-)

Billy B@rk, on December 1, 2007, said:

Cheers for that Graeme. I see that they have already have built new houses on the hospital grounds. It’s a bit out of the way for my liking not to mention the cost!
