When I see such pictures I sometimes think about our religion, Christianity. I guess, we are the only religion who shows their spiritual leader only or mostly in suffering position. Is this all we have to learn from it?

Greetings Polytropos, No problems with your musings. I think they want to remind you of the sacrifice that was made. There were also statues and artwork of the Virgin Mary, so it is very Catholic. Thanks for visiting and your comments.
