Ta for the nice words David. The only other castles we have visited were ruined Dunsky Castle at Portpatrick,Galloway because we were camping there. We loved it. When visiting Gatehouse of fleet we called in at Carsluith Castle. Which castle would you recommend up the west coast as far as Ayr? A.S.

Anita I would highly recommend Culzean Castle it has beautiful grounds and loads to photograph but needs a full day visit. THERE ARE LOADS IN THE AREA. :)

This is called Ana Cross. It is a fairly recent replacement. The original reportedly stood 24 ft high and its remains are in the crypt of St Mary's Lastingham
