Question Ralph:

Slides or prints? You have a number of shots that dont look digital.

Moses, That's a slide and a fairly old one. When I took it we didn't know the name of the peak. Since then, it has been named at least unofficially, Sacagawea. We didn't make it to the top, and I understand it is one of the more difficult of the Lost Rivers.

I have photos up on Panoramio dating from the late 1970s to just the other day.

All of the old photos are scans of slides. I never liked negative film.

I went digital early in 2002. My first digital was a Coolpix E995. It's amazing that I paid $1000 for a 3 megapixel camera with a less than great lens and a primitive sensor, but that was top of the line back then.

Yeah, I was curious because I recently borrowed a scanner and scanned a bunch of slides. This shot looks scanned, but there's no dust or specs. Are you photoshoping the imperfections out? That would be a ton of work considering all the pics you have downloaded.

Moses,

There is almost always dust on scanned slides, but if they have been stored properly, cleaning them with Photoshop doesn't take much time.

Blasting them with compressed or canned "air" before scanning helps a great deal.

Old slides with scratches and dust that have been banging around in a drawer can take hours.
