29th September 1999 the Spanish fishing boat Ormaza ran aground on a rocky shelf at Skigersta in Ness. She had damaged her rudder the previous week and had been told to get it fixed before sailing. The chart on the table showed the passage to pass the Butt of Lewis, unfortunately the damaged rudder did not allow that course and she ran aground approximately 6km south. We were there to remove the diesel and secure the nets so they would stay on board when she finally rolled over, in a couple of months she was gone.
