Very nice and peaceful atmosphere. But make me sure, you didn't take it during the last few days... I remember a snowy atmosphere taken late November in Canada I suppose. Makes quite a difference ! freezing Annick
Hello Marilyn
I want to be there! Better than what we have right now in Canada! snow and cold in Guelph too?
Beautiful picture Marilyn and beautiful and quiet place.
Syl
It is cold and grey at home now, with a little snow, a little ice, a little wind ... and winter hasn't even started yet! I had to "escape" by posting pictures from Malta last spring. I would rather be there than here in Canada right now! Cheers, Marilyn
Hi Marilyn, good contrast of the foreground to the colourful sky. And the two lamps are just perfect. Very good compostion. Very well placed objects by you (and your camera). It is geometric. I like it and I give a YS.
Greetings Marilyn, I hope you had the chance to enjoy an evening stroll along the water's edge and sit on the bench to watch the sun go down and listen to the approach of the evening. Very pleasant view.
Thank you, Carsten, Sergej, Misa, and Rich (and especially for the star, Carsten). This was directly across from our hotel, so we had the opportunity to enjoy it.
I'm glad you think the composition works, Carsten. All of us have faced this situation: a beautiful view, but everything firmly in place, and not quite the way we would have chosen! So we move around a bit, try various angles, and then crop a little, trying to get the best image we can under the circumstances.
This is a beautiful composition, Marilyn! I like the pink clouds, the quiet ocean, the bare trees, the street lamps and the railing. Everything is just perfect! Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Anne
Very beautiful shot, I love the framing! Good contrast and great symmetry, with the lamp surrounded by benches and trees on either side. Beautiful soft evening colors as well.
Thanks, Brandon. What a wonderful place to have directly across the road from our hotel! The only disadvantage was heavy traffic between here and there: cross at your own risk. But once you were on the promenade, you were filled with tranquility despite the nearby traffic.
Lovely place, it looks a lot to an area at Battery Park in New York City but the photographer did a better job capturing the feeling of the day. Great photo! :)
In responding to your introducing me to Freeman Patterson, his artistry and writing, I wanted to choose one of your photos that I now saw differently after reading the excerpts on his website. And this is the image. It is what I would call impressionism, and I like it. It's a statement about the way society adds its utilitarian and aesthetic elements to a landscape or seascape. The harsh pruning, the fencing, the seats, the lights and the promenade are so artificial, as if there is no attempt whatsoever to accord or even to enhance the simple beauty of the sea, the sky, the ephemeral clouds and the changing light ... and moods. Yet they are regarded as enhancements not just for the utilitarian value but for they domesticate and reassure that this is a safe and gentle place to be, if you are able to sit on a seat behind a rail. Why is that the beach is not the place of honour? Why a seat? Is the beach to far down, the sand to muddy, the grass to green? All of the elements captured so simply, yet the questions keep coming. If htere is so much need for building an artificial environment, where are the people. Perhaps there is only Alfred Hitchcock waiting in the wings to sidle into the scene.
In other words I have very much enjoyed meeting the work of Freeman and seeing some of his images. I will be looking out for copies of his work here - I am sure they have made it.
Brunswick seems like a nice place for your next assignment Marilyn, and tell him when you see him that you were once his senior. And please, while you are at it make a detour to Sydney and post some images of that other one.
