Giant Stranglerfig Daintree NP

Queensland's wild place are stunning and beautiful. While this one is in a national park it still faces the threat of new resort developments and high impact recreational activities such as quad biking, which the QLD government plans to allow in National Parks. Unfortunately many others have even less protection. A development crazy state government with virtually no regard for the natural environment basically throws even existing formal protection into question. Expanded bauxite mining on Cape York Peninsula, new coal ports along the Great Barrier reef, new mega resort towns in Cassowary habitat. Even private reserves like Bimblebox and the late Croc Hunter Steve Irwin's reserve on Cape York Peninsula are under threat from new mining proposals and the federal government is planning to hand even more power for approval to the states. Hopefully this will change to a more balanced approach so there will be more than photos left of Queenslands beauty.
