Hazy Day on the Дніпро (Dnepr River)

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

This is another view upriver on the "new" or eastern channel of the річка Дніпро (Dnepr River). On the horizon on the left about 7km. distant, the double decked (motor vehicles on the lower roadway with the railway above) arches of the eastern Мост Преображенского (Preobrazhensky Bridge) appear through the heat haze. острів Хортиця (Khortytsya Island) is out of the frame to the left. The central part (Ordzhonikidzevs'kyi district) of Zaporozhye is to the right with the southern tower of the Дворец Хортиця (Khortytsya Palace (17 floors - hotel, office, residential or combination??)) under construction in the center and a new 16 floor apartment block on the right edge of the photo. What appears at first glance to be several construction cranes are actually the towers of the power lines coming from the turbine generators at the Плотина ДнепроГЭС (Dneproges Dam) which is a couple of km. further north on the river. View is to the NW.

It was a very HOT day (almost every day during my visit to the Ukraine it was approaching 40C) and thus the haze and the mood is because of the heat. Maybe the heat is more apparent in the next phot in the gallery of the fisherman. Thanks for your extensive visit to my gallery and appreciative comments and best wishes from the USA, Mark
