Hello jgevans, no, not a grashopper. In germany we call it "Holzbock". In the english Wikipedia I found Longhorn_Beetle

Thanks for the long horn beetle picture, I don't think I have seen any beetle like that here in NC mountains. It is a very interesting bug. I have a grasshopper picture, not the greatest but I will add it to my pictures. Greetings, Jean in USA
