Vukovar 1991-2011, Vodotoranj: killed Water Tower became a thorny crown of the crucified martyr city

Not selected for Google Earth or Google Maps after a second review [?]

90 percent of Vukovar, Croatian city situated just on the Danube border with Vojvodina, was ruthless

destroyed in 1991 by Yugoslav (Serbo-Montenegrin) nationalists, territory abductors, murderers and thieves.

At the time of capture of the city, the strength of the attacking Yugoslav Army and its paramilitary units was

about 80,000 troops, versus a maximum of 6,700 Croatian defenders with hardly conceivable relationship

between the quantity and strength of arms on two opposing sides. But it was a Pyrrhic victory of Yugoslavia:

obtained battle, and lost war in Croatia.

This 50 meters high water tower, with capacity of 2200 cubic meters, was built in the late sixties in the so-called Najpar bašća Park,

at the city's entrance Mitnica. It was a favorite target of the aggressor's artillery, although it was not a stronghold of defense.

Before the war there was a restaurant on the building's top, with a panoramic view point on whole Vukovar, the Danube River banks

and surrounding Vučedol vineyards. Now it is a monument to the Croatian and Vukovar freedom and independence, but also

a monument to the Serbian-Montenegrin genocide, ethnocide and urbocid from the War for Greater Serbia, 1990-1995.
