St.Augustine's (Island Road, Kaiapoi) was built in 1860.
Like most of the country churches, it has its own cemetery right beside it: churches then were one-stop hatch-match-and-dispatch shops! Churches in town generally used a 'central clearing house' for burials...
I did quite a few weddings when I worked as a photographer in a small city with a similar name - Port Augusta, South Australia, pop 15000 (2010), so the name is so similar, and it is just past Bridgend too....
