I always wanted to go that far up the trail. By the looks of Google Earth, it looks like a road goes all the way from there to Maupin. Can you drive to where yor tent is set up? That picture makes me excited for summer!
No, you cannot drive on the rail trail. It has a locked gate. You can only bike/hike south to mile 16. It is very hot here in the summer. I only go in the spring and mid Sept. or later. Watch for rattlesnakes. I have seen several crossing the road.
The trail is not suitable for bikes after about mile 16 but you can hike 24 miles up river to Mack's Canyon. From there it's another 25 miles to Maupin, part gravel and part paved road, driveable by passenger car.
