Yet again, another large panorama comprising several frames stitched in PS 8. Seen at several times magnification, the distant Abbey can be seen on the headland. This view is taken looking in the opposite direction from this shot.

Steve Stoddart~~~~I was quietly pleased with this one Steve.. although the perspective is strangely distorted at the RH side! Is it a feature of the editing programme or my inability to follow instructions! The latter I suspect! The YS is very much appreciated:)

Geezer Vz~~~~~It's all a matter of personal taste Guy...I am often tempted down the path of artistic mans' enhancements are an-others nightmare! I completely take your point on the perspective of light and shadow! As for the shadows, had they not been so clear, I would not bothered to shoot it! Your fulsome review is greatly appreciated!

Steve Drury~~~As you are familiar with this location, it was relatively easy for you to recognise and place the various components...I was a little disappointed with the clarity in the far distance Steve, more my failing eyesight than the equipment..Cataracts can be fixed for sure but I am told they are not yet sufficiently mature! I'm delighted you enjoyed the pic and honoured by your generous praise!

Ghiocela~~~~Hi Simona :)) how lovely to receive your visit and friendly comment, I'm glad you liked this photo..

To you all, I express my sincere gratitude for your visits, precious comments, your endorsements, likes, especially the Y*'s and for taking the time to look!

Kind regards :)

Great shot Jim,

I love the light (and shadows) and there is plenty to occupy the viewer especially at full size.

Saying that "it's worth a look" is the understatement of the year! ...and how on earth can you be disappointed with the clarity in the distance? Are you KIDDING me? At first glance, no one would expect to see the Abbey, the beautiful church and all the other little houses, etc. so far, far off in the distance. Oh my gosh! I couldn't believe it! I was suddenly in a place so familiar from my visits to your gallery so many times before. Jim, this is incredible! I was entertained for the longest time! First, I was stuck right here in the very front. What is up with the house there by the tracks? There appears to be junk scattered all over the place all out in the yard, and boats are everywhere as well. Is that a trampoline too? Is the house under construction, or falling in? I also noticed the gentleman there on the bridge looking off. Did he notice you? Jim, it's an incredible work of art. You never cease to amaze and impress me thoroughly! Of course, the obvious treat ( the archways), alone, is quite grand, but then there is also so much more to discover! Well done, my friend! Oh, well done indeed!
Happy December wishes from your Lil' GA girl,

Mary Alice

Excellent composition and scenery like-26.

At a glance of your page, Jim, I wasn't interested. But the title beckoned. Bloody hell, ol' chap, stunning stuff! This is one cracking good shot! And you must be very proud of it. I would like to know, though, is that guy at the other end of the viaduct having a piss?

Dee Wainwright on December 2, 2011

lol @ having a piss :-p

Greetings one and all :) first, I am delighted at the reception so far..and flattered by so many wonderful comments..There is a lot going on in the photo for those who have the time or inclination to view it at full magnification..even to the far horizon, the Abbey and headland features can easily be made out. The owners of the former gasworks care little about the mess they make and I am sad to see it look like a junk yard..It seems that they are beyond the control of local authorities in as much the community is remote and largely inaccessible in the normal sense. No refuse collectors, sewage works, roads or street lighting exists. It was only a matter of time before one of you caught the man urinating and it was bound to be Si, come to think of it..Perhaps it is just as well I was using my wide angled lens!~~~I've enjoyed the humour guys, keep it up!....jim

mbe21~~~I'm glad the image opened up Mick..I struggled with it on my lap-top!

Sababoy~~Your'e welcome Sababoy,

cjlin~~~Hi :) thanks for your nice words!

Jethrohoyt~~~I noticed that the Venus has been grounded in your gallery too _Jethro, I was going to put a link to it..

Sarah O~~~~Special thanks Sarah, the YSL means a lot!

Bérangère Tiaffay~~~Thanks for the link, I shall take a look!

LegaTim~~~~~I'm flattered Oleg and grateful for the Y* :)

MotoG~~~Thanks for your appreciation!

景义仁~~~I greet you warmly Zyz and look forward to visiting your gallery soon!

TomRos~~~but you missed the man peeing Tomas !!!

MaryAlice~~~I'm most grateful for your wonderful appraisal Mary Alice :) You see everything, well almost everything :)

NIKOS1954~~~~Glad you liked it my friend!

Clive on Beara~~~Thanks for your words of praise Clive...I need to widen my horizons beyond those at be honest, I love the old town, but so do thousands of other photographers :))

J1mbo~~~It is a pity that the place looks like a junk yard Jim..They seem not to care how it looks and they are beyond local authority jurisdiction..The old gasworks is classed as a brownfield site.

Denise Gregory~~Glad your'e back, I wondered where you were :) Which camera are you getting for Christmas??

The all new Sigh~~~Hiya Si...well I'm glad you got a surprise, and yes! you are correct..well done for spotting him..I knew you would!

Denise Gregory~~~everybody does Denni :) it's a local custom!

Clive on Beara~~~The peeing place is strategically located because one can see every one else approaching, I think!

_ To you all, I express my sincere gratitude for your visits, precious comments, your endorsements, likes, especially the Y*'s and for taking the time to look!_

Kind regards :)

what a teaser, I couldn't resist enlarging the picture to have a squint, but it's my fault for using a netbook, I can't find the culprit! Beautiful view, though, in spite of the cluttered backyards, love the reflection of the bridge. Have a lovely weekend, susan

So the viaduct is the Filling Place of the Esk... I'd like to pay this place a visit for my own personal malarkey... Or to relieve myself, maybe.

I may be nipping into Whitby tomorrow for some shots, are you available? I'm not too struck on going to this place with the weather being crap, though.
