We were taking a break on the 3rd floor balcony of the Ritz' French Quarter Bar. (We had set up an infirmary in the room while trapped there.) It was Wednesday, 2 days after the storm passed. The two men were pushing their floating bin full of stuff away from Canal Street. This store was going out of business. Noone had yet tried to break into it (Stuff so bad noone would even steal it?) The guy at the window had picked up a piece of masonry out of the water, and began pounding on the hurricane window. He banged on it for 10 minutes while 20 of us watched. I wanted to say something, but my friend didn't want anyone to look up and see that we were there. It was a scary day, and we were hearing terrible rumors of mayhem outside the barricaded hotel. Eventually he got into the store, but I went back to work before I could see if he took anything.
