This photo is intended to record the existence of the moat (inner) at Kolovai Kolotau (= war village). I was standing on the median land between the two concentric moats that bounded the village, the seat of King Tuku'aho who ruled during the later 18th century. Tuku'aho was encountered by Captain James Cook in 1773 and by the first missionaries at the end of the century.
