all of the weird little coincidences continue! I know this area very very well: you would have been standing right in front of and a bit to the right of a house one of my sisters used to live in! Rocky Neck is perfect for a night time walk. (and I think this gap in the buildings is here because the building that was there actually collapsed several years ago.)
Nearly in the middle of this picture there is kind of floating port that appears to not to be connected to anything. May be it is the only remainings from the collapsed building.
Is anything special about this house which is within close proximity of this location? For some reason it caught my attention.
Hi Volkan - I think the floating structures in the water are just floating docks, but it's low tide (the tide here is about 10' difference. At high tide, it's only a few feet below the porch on the right.
The building collapse was maybe about 10 years ago, and I think most of it was removed. Several scenes in the movie 'The Perfect Storm' were filmed in this area.
Kamaly, thanks for all the info. I saw the "Perfect Storm" but I of course I got to see it again after this trip and info you gave me :)
The tide must be coming and going fast and nobody seem to have any objection to it's existence :)
well, it's not really anything we could change even if we complained about it! It makes things quite fun, since there's only about 6 hours between high and low tide, so that's quite a change in a beach! People do get stranded if they don't realize how much the water will rise, and if you're boating after maybe a few too many beers, like these guys must have been, high tide does sort of hide important features that make it not quite so fun!
(Are there tides in the Great Lakes?)
On a totally different subject: here's another Orion shot I came across you'd probably really enjoy (or be very very envious of!)
Well, I'll be back at MIT tomorrow morning. Will I be running into you on campus? :-D
cheers! (after a very long day!)
Yes, I am sure It would be funny watching whats going on during the tide. I don't know if there is any tide experience taking place or not but I haven't noticed any in last 13 years. Thanks for the links I'll try to do Orion from Chicago area so we can see the difference. And you haven't give me any clue, even if we run in to each other I would have blind looks ;) Good night...
