what a waste

Thanks for taking a look, Rosina. It is beyond my understanding ... Some crops are planted to feed migratory birds, but the Snow Geese do not eat pumpkins I think.

A great commentary on rural patterns and relationships and on our economic sytem. And a distinctive, colourful image. Thanks Nawitka. Ian

Are they really starlings? They look a lot bigger than European ones. Yours could have been in a Hitchcock movie! Great pic, whatever they are :-)

Thank you An Iolar, hamzars, muba, Epi and **Ian* for dropping in and commenting. I appreciate your visits!

Thanks purdey. You know, I wondered about that too. I know there are tons of starling here, and they do travel in big bands, but these really look like crows to me. Our starlings are European starlings, introduced because early settlers missed it's singing. What a disasterous decision. Anyway, the birds here are perhaps the native Northwest Crow, which is the smallest species of crow. (The "large crow" ecological niche is occupied here by the Raven, which is quite huge.)

yes, the pumpkins are really cute....the shot from Dionisio on Galiano is marine access only, or you can hike

Hi Nawitka, It does make a very pretty shot with the colours of the pumpkins, but like Rosina said, what a waste. We love to eat pumpkins here in Australia. I especially love pumpkin soup.

A wonderful photo and a great conversation around it and you other "unloved pumkin picture." Great combination of assets in a single picture.

Thank you very much abad, Jacenty, Daniel Mitin, Pogromca kiszek, Hank, Cheryl, dagmarx, and marek !!! (whew!) I'm feeling a little different about the waste now. Even if they'd been picked they are for decoration and not for eating, mostly. So their fate would be the same. At least this way the birds, mice, coyotes, owls and eagles have had some benefit!

Sorry Steve. Sad, isn't it? This year the pumpkins were perfect and they all got harvested.

That's a lot of pumpkins, all we need now is Charlie Brown over there. I was hesitant to follow your link, I usually don't follow links unless they say Voting for mine contesting or some thing like that.
