Good god, 560mm! Definitely must be enlarged to see the detail. Love the rim lighting on the occupants. Ys&L

100-400 + 1.4 teleconverter (only focuses in liveview or on a 1D camera).

Ken, thank you for the comment and the like/YS! I debated whether I should do an off-center crop, and thought this one worked better. Cheers, Sir!

Kenneth Kruse on December 12, 2011

Interesting how the EXIF does the math with the TC installed. I like the crop, my only suggestion would be to crop down to a true 2:1 so that you can frame it and send it to me :) I've theorized before that a 2:1 (or close to it) crop handles centered subjects very well and this just proves my theory.

WOW - that's a big 'ole sun!!! But I guess that's to be expected when you have a focal length that almost touches it! :)

This one really has to be viewed at full size to appreciate the detail. Thanks for uploading it at this size!

Kenneth Kruse on December 15, 2011

I think you should offer to sell the photo to the charter service that runs the boat.

theverbiage on December 16, 2011

Thank you, gentlemen, very kind of you!

Kevin, this is not really full size :))

Ken, maybe I should stop by them over the weekend or something :) Thanks for the idea! Hmm, maybe I should show them a print...

theverbiage on December 29, 2011

...and only just now did I get to see it on a big screen! No more laptops! (Yay!)

kenfowkes on January 2, 2012

Did you contact the charter service yet? I bet they would jump at the chance to use this. I have never used a lens anything close to 560mm and am curious about the timing of a shot like this. How long was the boat in front of the sun?

theverbiage on January 3, 2012

Ken, no - and I see too many faults with this shot (a bit soft, grainy, etc.) The boat was there for a couple of seconds, but there's opportunities like that every night, and everybody and his dog there has a DSLR :)) Don't think I'll be making money from my photography any time soon :)

Thanks for the answers - both of them :) - regarding the Moscow photo.

With this photo you were late only about five years. Uploading it so little earlier and we would see it on the most popular photos tab every day. Very sweet scene!

another Homer Simpson moment!

theverbiage on January 30, 2013

Duh? Not sure what you mean. Unless... unless, of course, you mean the opening credits to the show.

Cheers, Mate!
