This curious building was built as a garden house by the 4th Earl of Dunmore when he returned to Scotland from his estate in Virginia where he had been Governor. A true replica of a ‘pineapple’, 45 feet high, was built in 1761 and can be seen in the grounds of the Dunmore Estate at Airth near Stirling. It is now a holiday home.
