Black and white on Lanzarote.

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

It is difficult to believe that such volcanic soil can be cultivated, but that is what we have here. Just underneath the top layer of black ash is a layer of fertile soil ready for seed planting in the next season.

Hiya Herb:-) A surreal scene indeed... The black of the volcanic soil contrasts so starkly with the buildings...

Beautifully captured, Herb....

Hi Steve, must grateful that you, like me, enjoys this scene. I did crop it a little close and on reflection, maybe a little too much but I did like this shape. Cheers, mate, and a Happy New Year. Herb

It sure is hard to believe than anything would thrive on such a soil. These lines in the landscape are they there to keep the water in?

I definitely LK + fav. for this one Herb. A wonderful contrast here, and also a bit of interest with the people and vehicles. It needs, of course, to be enlarged for the full impact. To my eyes it's a little corker! cheers, David.

Olivier, Chiara, Erik and David, great that you have brought my attention back to this almost forgotten photo. I liked the little white boxes on that almost barren volcanic black soil. Many thanks for enjoying this with me and giving me your awards.

Cheers my friends, Herb
