St Bertalan's was the town-centre Church of Pécs. When the Turks invaded in 1543, the Church was knocked down and rebuilt as a Mosque. The Turks were driven out in 1686 and the Hungarians didn't replace the Mosque but, typically, absorbed it into their culture, and continued to use it as their Parish Church. See how the Islamic Crescent and the Christian Cross have been brought together atop the dome.
