The title to this photo is actually misleading. First of all, it is not a tank - it is an M10 Wolverine Tank-Destroyer. The US did use these during WW2; but that is not the reason, why this one is placed here.
In this area there are several German fortifications from WW2; but there was never any fighting on the Danish west coast.
But after the war, the Danish army got a lot of US equipment. Among this was the M10 and the M24, which were used for a couple of decades after the war. When they were finally scrapped, some ended in museums and others were used as targets in firing ranges.
This brings us back to this picture. In near by Nymindegab is a training camp for the Danish homeguard and they use this M10 for training short-range anti-tank fighting.

We went up the Nymindegab for a small vacation and wanted to check the tank out, but it was gone. We asked at the local WW museum, they told us that it was removed long ago.
Just to let anyone know, if they intend to run around the dunes looking for it ;-)

Dear Nikko D
Thanks for your information. Pity that the M10 has not found its way into the WW2 museum in the town. We can now see him only on Google Earth.
