The meter project on Main

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

On part of this Memphis Main Street 30 or 40 of the parking meters were repainted or otherwise redecorated by Memphis artists.

Some of them are quite interesting, but for some reason, I only took photo of one.

South Main, looks like the trendy part of town. I parked for free at the visitor center and took one of the colourful old street cars + walk mostly. Downtown Memphis is easy to cover on foot.

This type of meters are mostly gone in Toronto. The new type are solar energy powered, but the revenue still goes to the city!

Interesting idea! In Chicago, parking meters have been "privatized" and they look like ATMs. The only difference is, you put money in and get nothing back. Like

Except for the paint job this one looks quite the same as the ones I remember from my childhood. Nowadays there we have only the ones described by Marlene. Prices have also changed on some places in Amsterdam you pay € 5,-/Hour ($6,40 p/h) and some politicians are thinking on doubling the fee!!!

Cheers, Erik
