... and an amazing, lovely moment at that! Love the alpenglow. But how? (if you don't mind sharing - if you'd rather not, that's fine!)
Thanks for the comments SK, I don't have any secrets really, the timing had a lot to do with it of course. As you can probably tell it is an HDR image, bracketed 3 shots at 2 stops diff. and tone-mapped in Photomatix. Additional refinements were done in Lightroom including sharpening, noise reduction, local and global tonal tweaks and a slight vignette. In Photomatix I have downloaded and installed Stuarts presets which is a pretty broad collection of presets that are available for free, I basically start with one that is close to what I want and tweak it from there, I believe I used the one called "stunning" which seems to be used the most by me. I think the key to the alpenglow was the tone-mapping, here is another version of the same exposures also tone-mapped but with different settings, as you will see the warm alpenglow is definitely not as strong it's still there just not as pronounced. Of the different versions I processed I think this is closer to what I remember seeing.
Thank you for the details, Ken! Happy shooting - and a good weekend to you.

Как картина великого художника! Чудесная фотография!
The horizon is tilted deliberately?
Everything else is pretty beautiful!
Kind Regards from Kiev

Such an incredible picture, like and favorite.
Thank you all for your comments Gerefa, SunSay and McSky, I appreciate everyone taking time to stop by and comment. SunSay I really struggled with the horizon on this one, I do believe it is straight but appears tilted no matter which way I rotate it. The shore of the lake from the center all the way to the left edge is at an angle which interferes with the perception of the horizon. It seems if I tilt the picture to compensate for what appears to be the horizon then the mountain is crooked and visa versa.
Thank you for the comment roeli, cheers --- Ken
