I enjoyed looking at this for a long time. I like a landscape with so much to explore in it! The cloud resting on the top of the hill is so dark, is it smoke?
Thanks for the comment Ken the cloud on top is just that, a dark stormy looking cloud, it does look a little darker in the photo than it did in real life but similar. I took this at the long end of my 55-200mm zoom and further cropped it so the the angle of view is probably a 600mm (35mm) equivalent. Needless to say I can see much more in the image than I could in person.
When I first started taking pictures as a young teen, I had undiagnosed near-sightedness, so I was amazed at the detail I could see in photos that I couldn't in person. It seemed a little bit magical to me at the time, and the desire to take (and look at) photos that make a point of revealing something more (or different) than the eye can see has stayed with me.
