Sure !

Is there a party in Greece (by definition not one in the Papademos coalition) that defends the people over profits idea ? I've heard the communists were and that they were credited of more than 30% in the polls.

Is that true ?

Is Jean-Luc Mélenchon (a french left wing politician, opponent to Sarkozy, who, among other, fights to get the greek people rid of the infamous austerity plans) known for his fight in Greece ?

like. … on February 22, 2012

So if you agree to let me post that link, here is where left wing french people can sign a petition that says that they don't agree to the Troïka plans for Greece (and soon others too...).

I signed the petition one week ago.

It says (quick google translate work) :

"The Greek people are in self-defense. Attempts to impose austerity policies unbearable. The successive plans or scaffolded in Brussels by the European Council and presented on a more regular as the only way to "save" the debt and to "save" the euro, are failing each time. By submitting increasingly to the dictates of financial markets is not treated the patient. Kill it. Continue in this way is as foolish and dangerous. Austerity, hurts the European peoples, it also hits Europe with full force. We need a real plan of solidarity with Greece. This is also the only way of salvation for the euro and the European partners of Athens. The European Central Bank (ECB) should help boost growth and employment in Greece and elsewhere, funding - the rate at which it lends to banks at 1% or less - the states and their utilities, allowing them and out of their dependencies in financial markets and their usurious interest rates. Growth declines everywhere today. A new recession threatens the euro area. Democracy is trampled. Non-elected governments, like that of Athens, are designated, the Areopagus bureaucratic dictate their law to elected assemblies. Authoritarian decisions are taken to force the popular resistance against crushing wages and social protections. The construction of Europe will not survive this headlong. Peoples struggling against austerity are right. They need our solidarity. We support the idea put forward by economists, actors and social movement of the left so that, for the redemption of public debt issuance, the ECB funds directly to states and their utilities. This would be the only way to break the springs of speculation against the public debt. The partners of the euro area must be able to use the power of the ECB to create money to fund the vast needs of our time (social, ecological, energy, health etc.) and finally meet this need for European solidarity. They are not inflationary because impulsent higher productivity and ecological and new wealth creation in the whole euro area. The European Financial Stability Fund established by the EU must be transformed into a European fund for social and ecological development and devoted to this purpose. And bank recapitalization or nationalization must be conditioned to another credit policy in support of these objectives. Europe is at a crossroads. It can not overcome the crisis if it breaks free of the dictatorship of financial markets and becomes capable of promoting social, democratic and ecological shared."
