The clock is about five years old and commemorates the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Decked out with lights for Christmas it also plays carols.

On the bottom circle it says something about the Queens Jubilee and I think a member of the royal family opened it!

You may be right miniest_pullen. I'll have a look next time I'm in town.

At the base of the clock is an inscription which reads, 'Inaugurated by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT commemorating the Golden Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II', an event which occurred in 2002.
