Ford Anglia 1963 outside the Mobilia car museum in Kangasala, Finland. It's one of so called cars of nostalgia that are hired with or without a driver.
Very nice car! Do you happen to know which year it is approximately? It reminds me somehow on the "Trabant", the probably most-selling car in former GDR, built from the late 50s through the end of 80s.
It is Ford Anglia 1963 and one of the so called cars of nostalgia in the Mobilia car museum in Kangasala, Finland. They hire these cars if you are interested.
... they are still actively raced in England (where they originate from) Sixten
You can pick up a superb model but they are still tiny cars!
Nice one - Jethro
Thanks, Jethro. Let's hope the race results are good and these cars will last. Of course we have seen lately the new Beetle, new Mini, new Fiat 500, so who knows... :)
Lets pray they do not bring back the Ford Anglia!
Careful what you don't wish for, J :) Well, I guess you are right again. Easier to reach the backseat, extra room all around, a modern motor you can't fix yourself, less noise inside. It would not be the same car anymore.
Oh boy, this brings back hilarious memories. You had to be tough to own an Anglia! I had one in high school, cost $75! Finer points: (1) starting it required a shot of ether into the carburetor, (2) you could grind a couple of pounds of beef before leaving the driveway, so (3) double-clutching required at all times, (4) the gear shift lever came off in your hand when shifting into 3rd, so jamming it back in while driving was a crucial skill, (5) you could see the road through a gap in the floor, (6) all knobs, levers, dials and other interior accessories broke off, and (7) no fire wall, so in the summer it was about 140 degrees inside with all the windows open.
These are just the finer points. I've forgotten the others. That car was a blast, nothing like it ever, so say what you will in criticism. I don't care, because how many $75 cars have there been that you could drive the h__l out of all over San Jose, California in 1965? :D :D :D
Thank you very much for the great story, Diane. The best automobile ad for a long, long time :) . Greetings from Finland - sixten_imgs
Ps. Maybe the California police would have needed some Anglias to cool down the "he**-raisers" like you. I've seen images of the old English police Anglias and the Police sign on their roof seems to be almost as big as half of the whole car! That would stop anyone :D
