Hi 2cme. Yes its sure is a desolate spot. I think it is quite sad that so many Irish railways fell in disuse down the years, as they might have provided the perfect answer to todays transport problems. Imagine just how accessible areas like this could have been for the wandering photographer.

It is! but the truth was we couldn't afford to keep em. That been said theres a wonderful melancholy in photography these places. Another spectacular stretch is Killorglin to Cahircaveen along the northern ring of Kerry route, tunnels bridges, coast & mountains it would have been a spectacular tourist railway. Should check it out!

Yes, I know that area quite well. I once walked part of the old Tralee to Dingle Light Railway which took in some spectacular views.
