Es la única Plaza Mayor cuadrangular de Andalucía. Su diseño actual pertenece al arquitecto salmantino Antonio Ramos Valdés.Se construyó bajo el mandato del Corregidor Francisco Ronquillo Briceño en 1683. Es un rectágulo irregular de 113 metros de largo y 55 d e ancho. Durante tiempo se utilizó como plaza de toros.
