A beached boat suggests always an adventure, Rosina. Between the maze of their equipment become engraved two modern buildings; will be that
it plans a trip to the future?
Dear Rosina
Merry Christmas from the sunny Carribean.
I believe this is the Endeavour? I was aboard her when she was in San Sebastian de La Gomera in the Canaries. I should dig up some of those photos and post them.
Hi Rosina, Yes it is the replica of the old Endeavour. Built in Western Australia, almost down to the 'no nails' old time ship building theory using timber 'runnels' (like a tapered dowell to the rest of us.)
I visited this ship when it came to New Zealand and had hundreds of people queing to look over it. Headroom in the Marines quarters is just below my shoulders (between the deck beams!) & the ship had a top speed with full sail on, of just 7 or 8 knots... Real fast, just like a caste iron bath tub, with the tap (blunt) end into the seas.
But it has sat. nav. a donk & fully equiped kitchen down there.
Regards, Peterbnz in Christchurch.
.....its a lovely boat, the Cutty Sark was just as good, but some idiots here in London decided to set to set fire to it...the repair is going on
but can they restore it to its former glory? Only time will tell, cheers !!
