I just came across your work - I was looking at Whiskeytown Falls and saw your "Road Less Traveled" in Lewiston. This is a venue for our local British Car club at least once every year; I'm so glad it's showing on Google Earth.

I LOVE the light on this mountain! Also your Yellowstone Falls shots are pretty too.

Paul

Bruce MacIver, on January 6, 2008, said:

Thanks Paul -- a bunch of British cars around the Lewiston pump would look pretty cool!! Happy trails.

Richard Ryer, on January 6, 2008, said:

Greetings Bruce, Wow, what a beauty. This photo still just blows me away. And to think it is right outside Calgary. Great job. Wonderful lighting.

Cheers,

Rich

There is a lot of beauty just outside of Calgary, Rich. All the best for 2008!

Snemann, on January 8, 2008, said:

A definite desktop candidate! What camera settings did you use here?

Bruce MacIver, on January 9, 2008, said:

Hi Snemann good to hear from you again. This photo is a composite of three pictures shot with ± f2 at 1/60th of a second, centered on f5.6. I put the photos together as 3 layers in photoshop, with the lighter exposure used for the foreground, middle exposure used for near ridgelines and the darker exposure used for the mountains. It is kind of like HDR, but done manually, because I didn't like the 'artificial' look that I got when I played with HDR in PhotoMatrix. The moon was added later -- in the tradition of Rich Ryer.

Graham Hobbs, on May 19, said:

Hi Bruce - I've really enjoyed browsing your gallery - now that's real awesome places - and beautifully photographed. This is a beautifully put together image with a real sensitivity for what the final result needs (can you hear a but coming) but, if I might offer a small suggestion - the moon needs to be flipped horizontally if it being lit by the same sun as the mountains. It's just something that stops it being a realy great image to people like me whose brains can't help noticing those things. Best regards, Graham

Graham Hobbs, on May 19, said:

PS - I realise horizontal flipping is soemthing you can't do in reality - there's too much deatil on the face of the moon - I just meant you need a moon image with the opposite lighting on it.

Bruce MacIver, on May 19, said:

Thanks for the comments Graham -- you are quite right. To paraphrase Rummy -- sometimes you have to go with the moon you've got, rather than the one you want 8^)

ViewingWindows, on July 4, said:

A shot that's truly out of this world......Since it must be taken on a planet with TWO SUNS!!!!!!

Your mountains are lit from the sun in the right, and your moon is lit by a sun that would have to be in the upper left!

What's with the game you play with all your fake shots? Seems your shots are in country that's extraordinary to start with. What's the point of all the fakes? You think you can improve on God's work?

You post all these fabrications, and then you act all indignant with people who aren't so gullible and call you out on the fact they're fakes. What a waste.

Kathy Keener, on July 4, said:

Wow, someone is howling at the moon.

Bruce MacIver, on July 5, said:

Thank you Kathy -- much appreciated 8^) -- it is 'out of this world' VW, but God had very little to do with it.

Happy trails.

Kathy Keener, on July 5, said:

Who knows? Maybe God sparked within you the desire to create something that He would like to see on panoramio!

Bruce MacIver, on July 5, said:

You are probably right Kathy -- I have always thought of this valley as my most special place for camping and hiking. Ever since I was a boy, I have returned here for peace and beauty.

Kathy Keener, on July 7, said:

Thanks to your photo....or ahem...composite...we can all go there for peace and beauty. Imitation is the highest compliment. I believe that God enjoys watching us imitate Himself in Art.
