We were there at the same time. They were having very strange things happening in the ocean with the tides. Usually not at all like this. Very scary. In front of our hotel in Kaanapali we couldn't even put up a beach chair so it would stay upright. It ate our beach!!!

Yes, I remember how rough the water was--the waves were high and the water came almost up to the sidewalk at one point.
