Natchez-under-the-Hill and its trappings

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Natchez-under-the-Hill was the most notorious river landing on the entire Mississippi.

It was KNOWN for a row of saloons built on stilts over the river, called “trap-door saloons.”

Naïve travelers who wandered into one of these saloons, were often clubbed to death and robbed of their belongings; their bodies dropped into the river thru trap doors in the floor of the saloon

I have survived this year visit, and have only few scars and photos from this experience.

Isle of Capri Casino is a stationary boat Casino in Natchez, Mississippi and is open daily 24 hours. The casino's 17,364 square foot gaming space features 620 gaming machines and ten table games. So they can still rob you blind, but it is legal and voluntary!

In the background is Vidalia bridge, crossing to Louisiana.

Netušil jsem, že hraniční území mezi Mississippi a Lousianou může být tak zhýralé a nebezpečné :)) Řeka asi nepatří pod žádný stát. Pěkný snímek L108 Greetings, Přemysl

Between getting clubbed to death and getting shanghaied, the river was a pretty treacherous place to be.

But the river provided a beautiful photographic venue for you. This is a wonderful image. Very good color and extremely sharp without the artifacts that come from software sharpening. An excellent photograph.

It this quite safe to travel along the big river in the present day.

Nobody took advantage of me, casinos leave me cold. I went inside, but people smoke there and it stinks.

I rarely use the software sharpening. Last several months, not at all. Like you, I do not like the result!
