CUSCO, PLAZA DE ARMAS *Iglesia de la Compañía

Esta iglesia cuya construcción la iniciaron los jesuitas en 1576 sobre las bases del Amarucancha o palacio del Inca Huayna Cápac, es considerada una de las mejores muestras del estilo barroco colonial del continente.

Su fachada es de piedra tallada, como se puede apreciar en la foto, y su altar mayor es de madera tallada y revestida de pan de oro. Se construyó sobre una capilla subterránea. Adicionalmente, destacan dos capillas, aquella de Lourdes y el antiguo oratorio de San Ignacio de Loyola.

Este templo posee una valiosa colección de lienzos coloniales de la Escuela Cusqueña.
