Lake in Thar Desert

Thar desert has gypsum deposits. Normally there is scant rain fall in the region, but last year and a few years before that there was excessive rains in the region leading to floods. All the water could not percolate down in the earth because layer of gypsum solidified thus creating lots of ponds and lakes there, which proved to be boon for the inhabitants of the desert
