btw, the name of the river is spelled "Neckar"

The picture is nice, yet the designation "Esslingen castle" is misleading. Esslingen had fortifications, including fortress buildings for the city guards, but being a Free Imperial City, there was never a castle of a lord. The photo shows the so-called "Hochwacht", or Upper Guardhouse, and parts of the rampart to the left and right. The Upper Guardhouse and the "Thick Tower", another often shown landmark, are parts of the city fortress.
