At the site of an older Illyrian settlement of the tribe Dalmatae, Greek colonists founded the settlement called Tragurion during the 3rd century BC. Those were the Greeks of Sicily, who came from a previously established military and trading colony of Issa (Vis, Croatia) in the 4th century BC.
