TROGIR: 4000 years continuously inhabited town

At the site of an older Illyrian settlement of the tribe Dalmatae, Greek colonists founded the settlement called Tragurion during

the 3rd century BC. Those were the Greeks of Sicily, who came from a previously established military and trading colony of Issa

(Vis, Croatia) in the 4th century BC.

If ever you go to the beautiful south,

stand in front of Trogir,

anchor the boat under the walls of the city..

(Vladimir Nazor, from the poem "Book of Croatian Kings", 1904)
