I visited a YH for the first time in 1975. That was Colchester YH. Unfortunately on their closing night. But still, it was the beginning of a great adventure.

We still like to go and stay in YHs because of the good atmosphere, and manage to do so at least once a year. Regards.

I haven't been able to work out how your name is derived .I was interested to read that you had stayed at a YH at Colchester, as we live just down the A12 near Chelmsford.As a young man, although I cycled hundreds of miles a year mostly with the "Chelmer Cycling Club", I didn't do much hostelling.I got to the hostel at Salcombe, Devon on two occasions and managed Paris once. I can still remember cycling with the club to Fort Dunlop,Bimingham for the "Festival of Cycling" part of the "Festival of Britain" celebrations We did this ,most of us having worked till 5.30pm or thereabouts on the Friday to arrive at Bimingham for breakfast.I had a Rudge fitted with a Sturmey Archer gear and a very large saddlebag which was fashionable at that time. Nowadays I get tired driving that distance. I consider I've had an interesting life ,in which travel has played a big part but I also think I've used the personal pronoun far too many times so bye for now .Please write again and Best Wishes
