'Many and various stories are said about Delphi and even more about the oracle of Apollo. For they say, in most ancient times the the oracular seat belonged to Earth who designated as prophetess Daphni, one of the nymphs of the mountain....In it the poet Antiophemos narrates that the oracle belonged to Poseidon and Earth in common; that the Earth gave her oracles herself, but Poseidon had Pyrkon as servant for the oracles....They say that afterwards, the Earth gave her share to Themis, who gave it to Apollo as gift. And gave to Poseidon Calavria that lies in Troezen in exchange for his oracle. From Pausanias' Description of Greece. Phocis. Ozolian Locri. Book 5:5-7.
