My Aunt Valda is buried in the churchyard here. She died in 1918, aged three years, in the influenza epidemic that swept Europe at the end of the first world war between the imperialist nations. The wreaths and crosses laid at the base of the memorial commemorate the men from the village who died fighting in that war and that of 1939-45.
