Looks almost like in a fairy-tale. Nice one!
Thank you, Sir (Patrick)! I almost added to this photo a title "Wait a minute, is there a princess in the window needing help?". Then I remembered I have decided to try to keep my photos and titles as documentary as possible ;-).
There really was very near to be a start to an interesting discussion in the forum. I guess it is a problem that has been around in photography over 100 years. I admit my definition for documentary was all too improvised.
Well, it really is an interesting and difficult subject. This photo looks quite "documentary" for me, although the portrait format seems already a step towards artistic photography, since your natural view as a person is rather wide than high (that seems to be the reason for the change from 4:3 to 16:9 in film industry).
On the other hand, documentary photography often refers to rather pragmatic use of photos (so photos taken by the police, by historians, scientists etc., which have special benefits by taking these photos). From this point of view, almost all photos on Panoramio have some artistic touch, meaning that there is no pre-defined use of each photo, but that it might mean most different things for each single viewer.
Very good points, Patrick. At the same time I think we also have here quite an unique collection of valuable and useful documents from places where the satellites and Google's camera cars can never reach.
About the formats... Sometimes I have a strange feeling that just that day when we all have wide angle cameras some guy from the camera industry announces that the 1:1 is the ultimate format with all the fantastic sides of both the panorama and the portrait photos.
We'll see... :)
Can't help but look for the woman with long hair let out the window on this lovely shot! BTW, I've been trying to get them to recognize 1:1 for some time now, apparently my efforts are paying off as I see mention of it here.
I suspect that your nice vision and a little copy and paste operation would multiply the view count, Ken ;)
Just keep on fighting. Although the 1:1 may probably be a very challenging format in the street photography. I can imagine here a group of tourists, bunch of scooters and a street bar - both sides of the tower. Could that ruin the atmosphere a little?
Scooter jousting! I'm positive it would be a smashing hit!
:) I'm sure. As a matter of fact I remember a couple of places where there were everything else but the lances and helmets to begin that nice hobby.
You might be able to eliminate some blight by giving a few young lads a lance or two (without the helmets of course).
Maybe not so crucial ( or krusial™ :) measures at once... I would suggest that no lances but an order to ride around some days in full medieval armor. That should be enough at least in some cases :)
With or without the princess - definitely a good photo! like
Best regards, Reiner
