The first processing units of the Port Arthur Refinery were originally constructed in 1902 by The Texas Company, later Texaco. At certain points during its lifespan it was considered the flagship refinery of Texaco. The capacity was 275,000 bbl/d, and the current owners (Shell & Saudies) expanded it to 600,000 bbl/d (95,000 m3/d), in 2010. This makes it the largest refinery in the USA.

I drove miles and miles though this eerie and spooky refinery landscape at night. It is a sight, I will not forget!

Other interesting fact is, that there were no gas stations for at least 100 miles!
