On my first visit to Glen Davis in 1975, I was struck by how stark and bare everything was. The refinery had been shut down for over twenty years. There was nothing but brown and gray ash and mine tailings everywhere. Looks like the place is finally "returning to nature". I wonder if you found it as challenging to get to this point on your visit as I did on my last, in the early 1990s. The owner's enthusiasm for visitors kind of blew hot and cold over the decades.

Hi Monperrot, and thanks for your comments on this and other photos in the Glen Davis area.
We (my survey assistants and I) got to this spot following the road around the north side, which crosses the river not far from this point. The presence of lyrebirds on the side of the car probably helped to get access too, given where I am standing here was only a few metres from the national park boundary as far as our mapping showed.
As to returning to nature, the nature is not particularly local...
Cheers, Greg
