Nice architectural photography and good conservation work (probably conversion of farm buildings as well). It may be worth visiting again when the roses come to flowering.

First this is a HDR photo. This is the little village where lived, in the past, artisans and farmers below the near castle. The castle of Torrechiara was built in XV century. In this image the columns with bricks are, of course, modern. The village had been recently restored. (good cooking here) CIAO

I don't know what it means "HDR", can you explain please.

©galilaeus on March 23, 2008

It means High Dynamic Range (HDR). To be simple: you shot twice (or more) the same image, with different exposures. One with many detail in the sunlight, one other with many details in the shadow. Then you mix the images with a special program (e.g. Photomatix or DynamicPhoto) which extracts the best contrast, so you have, in the same image, a lot of details in the sun and a lot in the shadow and, sometimes strange colours: see here. Some cameras have the function bracketing and others have storage system named RAW. For more information there are many sites in the net. CIAO

Thank you for very valuable information Galilaeus, this technical wizardry beyond my expertise and I do not think I have necessary patient to be a good photographer. I am an amateur really and hope that, people are not getting tired of reading my comments. Marian quite liked your comments and photographs.

I beg your pardon, I think you are a true aristocrat: a Count, a Duke or, perhaps, a Prince! A lot of questions but no answers, lacking of technical debate and no comparision of your work (images) with common people. Here we all are amateurs. I'm a retired old white-haired man, never been a good photographer, probably I was the worst. By means of observation, reading and critics about my work, I grew up and surely I'm now just a bad photographer but not the worst.... it's just for laugh. CIAO

Galilaeus, it is always fun to read your comments. Your Mediterranean humor and modesty is quite charming and addictive. Sorry, but I have restricted myself to make comments mostly on architectural matters. I am a republican (a free citizen) but you are the true aristocrat (metaphorically). Best wishes.
