Hooded nudibranch (Melibe leonina)

An extraordinary density of the Hooded or Lions-mane nudibranch (Melibe leonina) in a kelp forest. The hoods of these predatory sea slugs exceeded 15 cm in diameter and were found on dozens of giant kelp between a depth of 15 and 30 feet offshore of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.
