The Anchor from the SS Grandchamp Whose Explosion Caused the Deadliest Industrial Disaster in U.S. History

At 9:12 A. M., April 16, 1947, the French freighter Grandchamp exploded in Texas City, Texas, setting off a disaster that killed 576 and injured an estimated 5,000.

This 10,640 pound anchor was found buried ½ mile from the scene of the explosion.
