This statue by Danish sculptor Thordvaldsen represents Nicolas Copernicus, a Polish astronomer famous for creating the heliocentric model of the Solar System. The Chicago statue in front of the Adler Planetarium is a copy of the statue destroyed by Nazzis in Warsaw, Poland and restored after IIWW basing on the model of the statue in Thordvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen.
