DongAn ancient bridge is the most beautiful elegant grandeur of the ancient bridges across Cowshed River in Kansai region. Built in the Japanese colonial era (1927), this five arch bridge was specially drawn from the local famous calcite in its construction. Every piece of bridge stone has a different color, texture, plus the aged factor, the old bridge becomes one of the Kansai's famous attractions.
Under the bridge is the Cowshed River which is the crucial source to nurture Kansai's agricultural. As a tributary of the Fengshan River, Cowshed River is just 5.2Km in length and was named to commemorate when residents set up fenced grazing cattle there in the Ching dynasty.
Here is now designated a "Cowshed River water park" shore with an entire column of weeping willows, limpid stream, and fish ladders along the river. Many people visit here to swimming, fishing, or taking a walk from time to time.
In Year 2000, this Taiwan rare five-arch-glutinous-rice bridge ever faced demolition fate for the fail to meet the growing traffic volume needs. Fortunately by the wisdom and efforts of academics and cultural workers, a plan to build up another similar style new bridge to share the loading and let two bridges coexist was proposed which save this ancient bridge from ruining. All these two bridges display in my photos, can you tell which one is the ancient bridge?
